The Dallas Festival of Lights is a Diwali mela held on a Saturday in October at Myers Park in McKinney, and it draws crowds in the thousands. Vijay Moksha, who founded Mystic Mandala in Plano, is behind it. Dance schools and young performers take the main stage, and a Ram Leela is part of the day. Around the stage are a Diwali bazaar, cultural vendors, an art contest, the Diya Sthaan and a food court of independent restaurants. The inflatable carnival is free, and so is mithai for the first 500 families. Tickets are sold on Eventbrite, children under 10 don't need one, and parking is $10 at the gate. If the weather stops it, the festival moves to the following weekend.
