About this happenin
Diwali Mahotsav is the Radha Krishna Temple of Dallas festival of lights, held over several days around Diwali at the temple on N. Watters Road in Allen. Attendance is free and open to all. Each day has its own pooja, among them Govatsa Dwadashi, Dhanteras, the Mahalakshmi Pooja on Diwali and Bhai Dooj on the last day, and fireworks go up over the temple on the festival nights. The centerpiece is the lighting of 11,111 diyas in the temple courtyard, and visitors can offer diyas and take part. The Diwali Leela tells Shree Ram's victory and return to Ayodhya on stage, in costume, with music and dance. There is an Open Stage for anyone who wants to sing, dance or play, a kids' workshop of Diwali crafts and stories, and a food festival with a Diwali menu of sweets and traditional dishes. Vendor booths selling clothing, jewelry, festive decor and gifts open in the days before. On Govardhan Pooja the temple builds the Annakoot, a mountain of food offered to Lord Krishna and then shared with everyone as Mahaprasad. City-approved sparklers are available for children, and no outside fireworks are allowed.
