Dallas Cinco de Mayo Fiestas
500 W Jefferson Blvd, Dallas, TX 75208
About this happenin
Dallas Cinco de Mayo is a free street fiesta on historic West Jefferson Boulevard in Oak Cliff, produced by the Oak Cliff Coalition for the Arts, a nonprofit founded in 1995. The coalition describes the boulevard as the epicenter of one of the most important commercial and cultural zones of the Mexican American community. The 500 block holds the lowrider showcase, with lowriders, custom and classic cars, pedal cars, bicycles and motorcycles, and a Tejano music stage sits on the same block. On the 600 block, ballet folklorico and flamenco companies dance on the Oak Cliff Stage, and food trucks sell Latin dishes beside the craft booths. Prizes in contests such as Best Grito and Best Dressed Pet go by people's choice. The night ends with a cumbia street dance. For years the day opened with the Big Parade of floats and marching bands. The parade did not run in the most recent edition, and the fiesta went on without it.
