About this happenin
The Dallas Holiday Parade steps off from Commerce and Houston streets in downtown Dallas on the first Saturday of December and lasts about two hours. Marching bands and clowns walk the route, along with giant helium balloons, most of them 30 to 55 feet tall. The Adolphus hotel suggested it to Children's Medical Center Dallas in 1987, when both were marking 75 years. Employees of the two put on the first parade on December 3, 1988, for a crowd of 70,000, and it came to be called the Miracle on Commerce Street. It is now the city's largest one-day outdoor event. It has won an Emmy, and more than 350 TV stations in 159 markets have carried it. Watching from the curb is free. Bleacher seats are sold for anyone who wants a guaranteed spot. Food trucks and vendors set up at Main Street Garden, and there is entertainment there and at Civic Gardens before and after. If weather calls the parade off, the organisers try again on Sunday.
