Celebracion del Dia de Muertos at Hughes Family Tribute Center
9700 Webb Chapel Road, Dallas, TX 75220
About this happenin
Crown Hill Memorial Park, a cemetery on Webb Chapel Road in Dallas, holds a free Day of the Dead celebration each fall called Celebración del Día de Muertos. The Hughes Family Tribute Center hosts it. It started in 2014 with a crowd of fewer than 100 and has grown every year since. It runs on selected dates from mid-October to November 2. Mariachi, Mayan dance performances, folklórico dancers, local artists, face painting and children's games make up the program, and an art exhibition is open on weekend afternoons from 1 to 4 p.m. On November 2 itself, entertainment runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and local vendors sell food. Bring lawn chairs or blankets, and a flashlight for the evening. Families can decorate a loved one's grave, as long as they keep clear of other graves. Glass, ceramics, alcohol, flame candles, incense, grills and fireworks are not allowed, and pets stay home unless they are certified service animals. Parking is at the Tribute Center and inside the cemetery, and the center's restrooms are open to visitors.
