About this happenin
From late September into early October, the city's Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events puts on World Music Festival Chicago, free concerts anchored at the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E. Washington Street. The festival opens with Ragamala, an overnight celebration of Indian classical music in Preston Bradley Hall that runs from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m., with Carnatic and Hindustani artists taking turns through the night. After that the festival moves out to neighborhood stages. Recent editions have put one or two acts a night into clubs and parks across Chicago and closed with a free outdoor party in Humboldt Park. Some shows are all ages and some are 21 and over, so check each listing. Every performance is free, seating is first come, first served, and the city says some venues have limited capacity and early arrival is encouraged.
More in September: 21 other Chicago events.
