About this happenin

Labor Day weekend brings the Chicago Jazz Festival, four days of free jazz centered on Millennium Park. The city produces it and programs it with the Jazz Institute of Chicago, putting local players on the same bill as national and international names. The first day starts indoors, with daytime sets in Preston Bradley Hall and the Claudia Cassidy Theater at the Chicago Cultural Center, then moves to the Jay Pritzker Pavilion for the evening. The Von Freeman Pavilion on the North Promenade and the WDCB Jazz Lounge on the South Promenade run from late morning on the other days, and on the weekend a stage opens on the Harris Theater roof. Free pre-events at venues around the city lead up to it. Outside alcohol isn't allowed in the park, though drinks are sold inside. ASL interpretation covers the Pavilion concerts.

More in September: 21 other Chicago events.
