Grant Park Music Festival

About this happenin
The Grant Park Orchestra and Chorus play free classical concerts for ten weeks each summer at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park, with guest conductors and soloists. The festival started in 1935, during the Great Depression, and calls itself one of the only free outdoor classical series in the country. Seats on the Great Lawn and in the back half of the seating bowl are always free, first come, first served. The front half is reserved for members and One Night Pass holders. Picnics are part of it. You can bring your own food and drink, though not metal knives, and plenty of people bring blankets and camp chairs. Children are welcome at every concert, and the festival suggests families with small kids try the lawn.
