About this happenin
Millennium Park gives itself over to the blues for one weekend each June at the Chicago Blues Festival. It is free, and the city's Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events calls it the largest free blues festival in the world. The park days run Friday to Sunday, noon to 9 p.m. Headliners close each night at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, smaller stages on the North and South Promenades start at noon, and student bands play Wrigley Square. The latest edition opened with a Thursday night show at the Ramova Theatre on South Halsted. Record labels and blues foundations, Delmark Records and Willie Dixon's Blues Heaven among them, set up a Blues Village on the North Promenade. A barbecue pit sells brisket, pulled pork and ribs, cards only. ASL interpreters work every mainstage show.
More in June: 21 other Chicago events.
