The Orchid Show at Chicago Botanic Garden

For about six weeks in late winter, The Orchid Show fills the Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe with orchids set in displays and vignettes, built around a new theme each year. It runs daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., from early February into the third week of March. Tickets go on sale to the public in January, and members get a preview the evening before it opens. Photographers have hours of their own on Tuesday mornings and late afternoons. On chosen evenings the show reopens as Orchids after Hours, with special lighting and cocktails and food for sale. A couple of those nights add a silent disco, with a DJ running several playlists.
