About this happenin
Twelve days each January, the Chicago International Puppet Theater Festival puts more than 100 events in more than 25 venues across Chicago, shows and workshops among them. It calls itself the largest festival of its kind in North America, and it has run since 2015 under its founder and artistic director, Blair Thomas. Companies come from the U.S. and abroad. The work fills tiny stages and huge theaters, shadow puppetry and bunraku-style alike. Most shows are for adults, with a few for children. The Free Neighborhood Tour takes family-friendly performances outside the theaters at no charge. Tickets are sold on the festival's site and held at the box office of whichever venue is hosting the show.
More in January: 3 other Chicago events.
