From the Fairmont on Columbus Drive it is a 10-minute walk south to where the booths start at Monroe. The Blue Line from O'Hare costs $5 and runs all night, so the hotels in the Loop work without a car.
About this happenin
Taste of Chicago closes Columbus Drive in Grant Park, from Balbo to Monroe, and fills it with booths and food trucks from restaurants across the city. It started in 1980. Getting in is free. There are no food tickets: vendors take cards, and cash isn't accepted at the booths. The latest edition ran Wednesday to Sunday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., with free concerts on the Main Stage at the Petrillo Music Shell, a Ferris wheel, a Family Village and a drone and fireworks show on the Friday. Every gate has metal detectors and a bag check. Glass, tents, bikes and big coolers stay outside. Seating is limited, so bring a folding chair if you want one.
