Reeling: The Chicago LGBTQ+ International Film Festival
3733 N Southport Ave, Chicago, IL 60613
About this happenin
Reeling, the Chicago LGBTQ+ International Film Festival, plays each September at the Music Box Theatre, Landmark's Century Centre Cinema on North Clark Street and Chicago Filmmakers on West Hollywood Avenue. It began in April 1981 in Chicago Filmmakers' 90-seat folding-chair screening room on West Hubbard Street and sold out nearly every show. The festival calls itself the second longest-running of its kind, and says LGBTQ+ people come from across the Midwest for it. International features and social documentaries anchor a program that also takes in experimental shorts, and juries and audiences both hand out awards. Passes come in 5-film, 10-film and full-festival sizes. When a show sells out, empty seats go on rush sale about ten minutes before the film. Since 2022 Reeling has worked with Access Reframed to add captions and audio description at select screenings.
