About this happenin
Each October the Chicago International Film Festival takes over theaters across Chicago, showing new international and independent films to the public. Cinema/Chicago, a nonprofit, presents it and calls it North America's longest-running competitive film festival. The first one opened in 1965 at the Carnegie Theater. AMC NEWCITY 14 in Lincoln Park is the central hub, with more screenings at the Music Box Theatre and the Gene Siskel Film Center. Juries award Hugo Awards in seven competition categories, and filmmakers attend selected screenings. Single tickets and multi-ticket passes are both sold, with members getting a presale before the public on-sale. A few events cost nothing, including the Digging Deeper film talks led by a Northwestern professor and the Community Cinema screenings in Chicago neighborhoods.
More in October: 13 other Chicago events.
