About this happenin
Humboldt Park has the largest Puerto Rican population in Chicago, and every June the park at 2800 W. Division Street becomes a four-day Puerto Rican fest. Thursday is a free community day. Freestyle Friday follows, then Noche Tropical on Saturday and Dia de la Salsa on Sunday. The People's Day Parade, hosted by the Puerto Rican Cultural Center, steps off at noon on the Saturday at Division Street and Campbell Avenue. Inside the park there are food stands and trucks, traditional Puerto Rican drinks, dominoes and giant Jenga, a carnival and an artisan market, while dance companies perform Bomba y Plena, salsa and merengue. Bring chairs and blankets. Backpacks, coolers, outside food and pets stay home.
