About this happenin
Edison Park Fest closes Olmsted Avenue beside the Edison Park Metra station at the end of August for a weekend of carnival rides and bands on a main stage. The Edison Park Chamber of Commerce runs it as a neighborhood fundraiser. It began in 1972 as a sidewalk sale on Northwest Highway and now draws nearly 20,000 people over the weekend. The festival map lays out a carnival, a beer garden, food stands, a craft fair and a business expo, and bingo runs all weekend. Sign-ups have opened for a bags tournament, a pet parade, a CPR class and a basketball clinic. The money pays for beautification projects, free programs such as Santa Express, school and civic fundraisers and the chamber's daily operations. The chamber asks for a $10 donation at the entrances. Leave firearms, coolers and dogs at home, since none are allowed, and expect a bag search.
