About this happenin
Pilsen Open Studios is an October weekend when artists in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood open their studios to the public. A group of longtime Pilsen artists, most but not all of them Latino, started it in 2003 as 18th Street Pilsen Open Studios, and it still centers on the studio as the place where the work is made. Every participating artist lives or works in Pilsen or has deep roots there, and a few cafes and cultural spaces show work by Pilsen-connected artists who have no studio of their own. Pilsen Arts & Community House, at 1637 W. 18th Street, now looks after the event. An online interactive map lists every stop, and paper maps can be picked up at the House. Pilsen Public Art Tours has led free guided walks through the neighborhood's murals during the weekend.
