About this happenin

Open House Chicago opens around 200 buildings across the city's neighborhoods, many of them not normally open to the public, on one free weekend every October. The Chicago Architecture Center has run it since 2011. Nobody gets through all of it, so it pays to pick a part of town and stay there. The sites are sorted by neighborhood, and the Center publishes themed itineraries, including one that follows the Red Line of the "L" and another the Green Line. The CTA and Divvy bikes cover the gaps, and some neighborhoods have free or metered street parking. Some sites open only on Saturday or only on Sunday, and each lists its own hours. Photography is generally allowed unless a site says otherwise. The festival runs rain or shine. Lines form at the popular buildings. Members of the Center and volunteers get a Priority Access Pass that skips them.
