Hyde Park Jazz Festival
Midway Plaisance Park, Chicago, IL 60637
About this happenin
The Hyde Park Jazz Festival spreads two days of free jazz across Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood, with outdoor stages on the Midway Plaisance and music in museums and churches nearby. The first festival was held in September 2007, when several thousand people heard 12 hours of free jazz in galleries and landmark buildings. It became its own nonprofit in 2013 and now runs more than 35 programs in over a dozen venues, among them Rockefeller Memorial Chapel, the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, the Smart Museum of Art and the DuSable Black History Museum. Admission is free, and the organiser asks for a $10 donation per person to keep it that way. Street parking around the Midway is free, a free accessible shuttle links the venues on a 15-minute cycle, and food vendors line the Midway grounds, where beer and wine are also sold.
