About this happenin
The Belmont-Sheffield Music Festival runs over Memorial Day weekend on Sheffield Avenue, from Belmont to Roscoe in Chicago's Lakeview, and the Lakeview East Chamber of Commerce calls it the official kickoff to summer. It has been going for more than forty years. Two stages, the Main Stage and the Belmont Stage, carry live music until 10 p.m. Dozens of food vendors cook on the street, next to local shops selling apparel, accessories, candles and pet goods. Hours are 5 to 10 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. An optional $10 donation is asked at the gate, and part of it goes to the music and to neighborhood beautification. Leashed dogs are welcome. Outside alcohol is not, and bags are checked at the gates. The festival starts directly under the Belmont CTA station, a stop on the Red, Purple and Brown lines.
