Gold Coast Art Fair

More than 200 juried artists from around the country set up on Butler Field in Grant Park, between the Art Institute and Lake Michigan, for the Gold Coast Art Fair on a weekend in June. Painting, sculpture, jewelry, ceramics and mixed media all turn up. Live music runs both days, and three oases on the field pour wine, beer and sangria next to the food. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The organiser has listed tickets at $10 in advance and $15 at the door, with children 12 and under free. Leashed dogs are welcome and the grounds are wheelchair friendly. Parking is in the Millennium Parking Garage, and Loop trains and Michigan Avenue buses stop nearby. Between the tents there are Paint and Sip classes, henna, caricatures and personalized poems, and the Kids Art Zone does face painting, sand art and giant bubbles.
