About this happenin
Asian Pop-Up Cinema is a Chicago film festival for new work from across Asia, held over a little more than three weeks each spring. Most screenings are at AMC NEWCITY 14 on North Clybourn Avenue, with others at partner venues that have included AMC Evanston 12 and Alliance Française de Chicago. Sophia Wong Boccio started it in 2015 through Sophia's Choice, the nonprofit she founded that year. Films play in their original languages with English subtitles. When it can, the festival brings directors and actors to Chicago to present their own films, and some screenings end with a filmmaker Q&A. A jury gives the competition awards. The Audience Choice Award goes to whichever film rates highest on ballots filled in after each screening.
