Chicago Air and Water Show
1600 N Lake Shore Dr, Chicago, IL 60613
About this happenin
Military and civilian pilots fly over Lake Michigan for two days in August at the Chicago Air and Water Show. North Avenue Beach is the focal point, and the lakefront from Fullerton Avenue to Oak Street works as one long viewing area. The city calls it the largest free show of its kind in the United States. It began in 1959 as a park district family day at Chicago Avenue, on an $88 budget, with water skiers and a water ballet. The Navy Blue Angels and the Air Force Thunderbirds now take turns headlining, usually with the Army's Golden Knights parachute team. Flying runs about 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, with a rehearsal on Friday. There is no parking at the beach. Red Line trains to Chicago/State or Clark/Division leave you a walk away.
More in August: 13 other Chicago events.
