About this happenin
Midsommarfest closes Clark Street in Andersonville, from Foster Avenue to just north of Catalpa, for a weekend of Swedish midsummer that began as a parade in the 1960s. The Andersonville Chamber of Commerce puts the weekend crowd at more than 80,000. Four stages along Clark, at Foster, Berwyn, Balmoral and Gregory, carry more than 50 acts, and opening ceremonies start at the Swedish American Museum stage. Local restaurants and vendors sell the food, and a family area runs free kids' activities. Dogs are welcome. Admission is a suggested $10 donation. It supports the chamber's year-round work and more than a dozen local nonprofits, and dozens of nonprofits raise money by working the beverage stations. Beer bought at the booths can be carried anywhere inside the festival.
