Austin Film Society brings the fourth annual Pan African Film Festival Austin to AFS Cinema, a four-day cut of the Los Angeles PAFF running six films across the African diaspora. The run opens Thursday, July 30 at 7 PM with Muganga, the One Who Treats, then moves through Friday and Saturday with a 20th-anniversary screening of Phat Girlz, the Toronto soul documentary Play It Loud, a short-film program, and the Kwame Brathwaite portrait Black Is Beautiful, before the closing-night feature Montmartre on Saturday at 7:30 PM. Know before you go: screenings are ticketed, and a PAFF pass covers all six at a 25 percent discount over buying individually. The festival ends with a free panel, "Culture Can't Be Automated, or Can It?: Storytelling and AI," on Sunday, August 2 at 3 PM. That closing panel is open to the public, but you must register in advance. Everything screens at AFS Cinema in north Austin.
