About

George Vanderbilt opened Biltmore House in Asheville, North Carolina, to family and friends on Christmas Eve 1895. His descendants still own it. Inside are more than four acres of floor space. The self-guided route covers three floors and the basement in an hour and a half to two hours, and you need a reservation for the house on any day. Frederick Law Olmsted laid out the grounds, where more than 20 miles of trails run from the gardens to the French Broad River.
