About

Smyrna Dunes Park, on the inlet at the north tip of New Smyrna Beach, has the only beach in the area where dogs are allowed, on a leash. The inlet shapes the waves off its jetty into some of the most consistent surf in the region. South of the park, cars come onto the sand at marked ramps such as 3rd Avenue and 27th Avenue, and the 10 mph limit is strictly enforced. New Smyrna is nicknamed the Shark Bite Capital of the World. Shark activity peaks in late summer and early fall, and most bites are minor.
