A covered outdoor ice rink goes up in Curtis Hixon Park each winter, on the edge of the Hillsborough River, and small local shops trade out of decorated PODS containers around it. Skating runs in 75 minute sessions with rentals included. Winter Village adds a cafe, curling lanes, ice shows under the tent on select nights, themed Tuesday skate nights and a Friday silent disco. A River of Lights boat cruise leaves from the park's Riverwalk stop. Walking in is free; only skating is ticketed. Tickets are paperless and can't be refunded or transferred, so reserve online or through the QR codes on site. Rink and cafe hours differ and shift across the run. Curling is first come, first served Wednesday through Sunday, and the event kiosk hands out curling gear and silent disco headphones in exchange for an ID. There's a quiet sensory relief zone on site. Parking is in the downtown garages, including the William F. Poe garage, for a fee.
