River O'Green Fest
600 N Ashley Dr, Tampa, FL 33602
About this happenin
Once a year Tampa turns the Hillsborough River a vivid emerald, and River O'Green fills Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park to watch it happen. The dye is EPA approved and NSF certified, the same tracer used to follow drinking water, and it spreads downstream past the Riverwalk while boats and kayaks drift through it. On shore the day runs Irish: step dancers from local academies, buskers and bands, lawn games, food trucks and a beer line. A pet costume contest lands mid afternoon. Know before you go: admission is free. The festival opens at 11 a.m., which is also when the coloring starts, so arrive early if the green water is what you came for. It runs on through the afternoon. Nearby downtown garages are the practical parking option. Dogs are welcome, and the games and activities are pitched at kids as much as adults. Food and drink are sold on site.
