About this happenin
Tampa's MLK Day parade covers two miles of East Tampa on the third Monday in January, stepping off at 21st Avenue and 15th Street and finishing at Osborne and 22nd. The marching bands are the reason to go: HBCU and high school lines take the full width of the street, capes and sousaphones and all, and the drumlines are what you'll still be hearing that evening. It's free to watch, and the Dr. Martin Luther King Parade Foundation puts a share of what it raises into scholarships for local students. Pick a curb along Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard instead of crowding the finish, and get there early, because the road closures start at 6 am.
