About this happenin

Chasco Fiesta has filled Sims Park in downtown New Port Richey every spring since 1922, with nine days of live music, a Native American pow wow and two parades. The pageant of King Pithla and Queen Chasco takes its names from the Pithlachascotee River, and the festival began as a library fundraiser. The street parade is billed as Florida's third largest, and the boat parade runs from Millers Bayou to Main Street. A car, truck and bike show, a carnival and food vendors fill the days between. Know before you go: gate admission has been $5 in recent editions, with children 12 and under free most days; reserved concert seats sell separately through Ruth Eckerd Hall. There is no festival lot, but free city lots sit close, including the Gloria Swanson lot on Bank Street and the Thomas Meighan lot at Nebraska and Missouri. Bags are checked at the gate: only clear bags up to 10 by 10 inches get through, and coolers, outside food and drink, chairs and umbrellas do not. Seating is provided at the music stage.
