About this happenin
Kids pick the winners at the New York International Children's Film Festival. The awards come from audience votes, and a vote from anyone under 18 carries extra weight. The festival is Oscar-qualifying and runs over three weekends from late February into March at theaters around Manhattan, with around 100 new shorts and features for ages 3 to 18. Its programmers favor films by and about people from communities that rarely get the screen, and visiting filmmakers stay for Q&As after many screenings. Everyone aged 3 and up needs a ticket. Screenings often sell out, but a waitlist runs at the venue up to two hours before showtime. Most venues have stroller parking, and groups buying ten or more tickets for one screening get $2 off each.
