Bronx Zoo Holiday Lights

About this happenin

After dark from late November into early January, the Bronx Zoo glows with hundreds of animal lanterns. The Lantern Safari trails sort them by region, Africa and the Ocean among them, and the Holiday Tree at Astor Court plays musical light shows. You can ride a snowtube slide in the Freeze Zone and watch ice carvers turn giant blocks into wildlife. The stands sell hot chocolate and s'mores, and adults can spike a seasonal drink with whiskey or Kahlúa. Tickets have to be reserved in advance. They let you in from 1 p.m., so you can see the tigers and snow leopards in daylight and stay on once the lights come up. It goes ahead rain or shine.
