About this happenin
NOLA River Fest is a free Saturday festival about the Mississippi River, held at the New Orleans Jazz Museum in the Old U.S. Mint, 400 Esplanade Avenue. It opens at 11 a.m., when a second line leaves Jackson Square and walks to the museum behind a leader such as the N'awlins D'awlins Baby Dolls or a brass band. The month has moved between early summer and September over the years, though every recent date has been a Saturday. Local acts play the main stage through the afternoon, and local food vendors and a full bar set up on site. Some years add walking tours and children's activities, and the whole festival streams on Facebook. Panels run alongside the music, and past ones have taken up dredging and coastal restoration.
