About this happenin
Through most of its history, part of the crowd at the Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo, a three-day music festival in New Orleans' Mid-City, has listened from canoes, kayaks, inflatable rafts and homemade barges floating on Bayou St. John. The nonprofit Friends of Bayou St. John produces it on the third weekend of May, Friday to Sunday. It began after Katrina as a one-day, one-stage party for the neighborhood and now runs several stages of local bands playing blues, jazz, zydeco, Cajun, funk and rock. In 2026 it moved to The Broadside on North Broad Street and the Historic Pitot House while the organizers looked for a larger site on the bayou. The main stages are ticketed, with weekend passes or single-day tickets, and there is also a paid VIP Canopy Club. The market of local artists and food vendors opens at 3:30 pm on Saturday and Sunday and has been free to walk through.
