About this happenin

Kenner's Italian Heritage Festival closes the 400 block of Williams Boulevard in Rivertown, the old river district, for a weekend in March that moves around within the month. Former Kenner police chief Nick Congemi pictured something close to a family reunion when he started it to honor the Italian families who built the area, farmers and tradespeople who sent rail cars of produce across the country. Adults paid $10 at the 2026 festival, and children 7 and under get in free with an adult. Parking is free on the surrounding streets. Folding chairs are welcome, while outside food and drinks, coolers and pets are off limits. The streets fill with live bands, food booths selling meatballs and cannoli, local crafters, a St. Joseph's Altar and a photo display of the area's Italian history. Genealogy specialists are on hand if you want to trace your own family.
