BlackAmericana Fest
600 N. Broad St., New Orleans, LA 70119
About this happenin
A two-day festival of Americana and folk by Black artists, held on a Friday and Saturday in late September at The Broadside on North Broad Street in New Orleans. Dusky Waters and Teena May founded it to honor Black musicians working in those traditions across the city and the Mississippi River Delta. The main stage carries Sister Rosetta Tharpe's name and the songwriter stage Elizabeth Cotten's. The Roots of Rhythm panel series runs alongside the sets. Children 11 and under are free with an adult ticket, and you register them ahead of time. Bring a blanket or low chair for the lawn. Vendors cover food, vegetarian and vegan included. Street parking is very limited, so walk or bike in along the Lafitte Greenway and leave the bike at the free valet.
More in September: 2 other New Orleans events.
