On the first Saturday of October, the galleries around Julia Street and Camp Street in New Orleans' Arts District open their new fall shows all at once, so Art for Arts' Sake doubles as that month's First Saturday art walk. The Contemporary Arts Center started it in 1980, and the Arts District New Orleans association (ADNO) has presented it since the early 1990s. About twenty member galleries and museums take part, among them Arthur Roger Gallery and the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. Evening openings run from 5 to 9 p.m., and the galleries are open earlier in the day on their own hours. The receptions are free. A charitable cause is tied to the night, and some galleries add live music or a DJ.
