WorldFest-Houston brings independent features and shorts from around the world to Houston each spring. Its most recent edition screened at Cinemark Memorial City Theatres, with tickets sold online and at the box office. It goes back to 1961, when J. Hunter Todd set up Cinema Arts, a film appreciation society in Atlanta. That became a competitive festival in 1968, and it moved to Houston in 1979 after five years in the U.S. Virgin Islands and one in Miami. Winners receive Remi Awards. Seminars and workshops for filmmakers run alongside the screenings. Houston International Film Festival, Inc., a nonprofit, owns the festival.
More in April: 6 other Houston events.
