Old Town Tomball holds its German Christmas Market over a December weekend, around 201 S. Elm Street near the Historical Train Depot Plaza. Admission and parking are free. More than 150 street vendors line Market and South Walnut Streets selling German heritage items, arts and crafts. The Weihnachtshaus in the Community Center at 221 Market Street is stocked with German clothes and souvenirs. Live music plays on several stages beside the open-air market, and there are contests for stein holding and the chicken dance. Friday opens at 6 p.m. Saturday starts at 10:30 a.m. with the tapping of the keg and a Willkommen ceremony for German exchange students and their Tomball host families, and Sunday runs until 6 p.m. A free shuttle runs from the east lot of HCA Houston Healthcare Tomball on Saturday and Sunday. The Tomball/Telgte Sister City organisation sponsors the market, and the same people put on the Tomball German Heritage Festival each spring.
