Houston Diwali Festival of Lights turns Levy Park, at 3801 Eastside Street, into an outdoor street festival for an evening. Masala Radio 98.7 FM organises it, and entry is free. Bazaar stalls sell Indian fashion, jewelry and Diwali decor, and vendors cook vegetarian street food on site. Visitors can get henna or face paint and have their photo taken at the booths. A parade of rickshaws goes through, and the night includes the Maha Arti, a candlelit mass prayer. The stage fills with Bollywood, folk and semi-classical dance, and the Crazy Masala Crew adds comedy. A concert headliner and a fireworks finale close the evening. Guests are encouraged to wear Indian ethnic dress. Alcohol is not allowed, and the festival moves to the next day if rain is forecast.
