Houston Chanukah Fest and Grand Menorah Lighting
901 Bagby St, Houston, TX 77002
About this happenin
Every Chanukah since 1995, Chabad Outreach of Houston has lit a Grand Menorah at Houston City Hall, 901 Bagby Street, and Houston Chanukah Fest is the free festival that fills the afternoon before it. The festival starts at 3 p.m., and students from Houston-area school choirs and bands open it before the live music. More than twenty craft and activity booths run hands-on Chanukah projects for children. There is kosher food, strolling street performers, a raffle and a toy drive that asks for new, unwrapped toys. At 6 p.m. civic leaders light the menorah, and fireworks go off behind it. Admission is free. Reserved seating in front of the stage costs extra, as do food and merchandise. Guests are asked to register ahead, and a no-bag policy is enforced at the Smith Street entrance.
More in December: 6 other Houston events.
