Asia Society Texas Lunar New Year
1370 Southmore Blvd, Houston, TX 77004
About this happenin
Asia Society Texas gives one Saturday near Lunar New Year to a free festival at its center at 1370 Southmore Boulevard in Houston, and between 2,000 and 4,000 people come. Registration is required. Chinese music and dance play to sold-out houses in the theater, and lion dances go up in the Education Center and on the front lawn. Almost 20 Asian- and Asian American-run small businesses from Houston sell food and goods around the center. Guests make puppets of the year's animal with the Houston Public Library, try Chinese calligraphy and finish with bầu cua cá cọp, a Vietnamese game of chance. Winning work from the center's student Lunar New Year art contest is shown at the festival, and performances carry on at The Galleria on later weekend days.
More in February: 3 other Houston events.
