About 30,000 runners line up at Congress and Fannin in downtown Houston on a Sunday morning in January for the Chevron Houston Marathon and the Aramco Houston Half Marathon, which share a start. The marathon has run since 1972 and the half since 2002, and race day is the largest single-day sporting event in the city. Marathon Elvis sings to the field at mile 1, at Washington and Sabine. Miles 3 to 6 are the charity miles, lined with Run for a Reason groups, and the Hoopla cheer stations along the course compete for a runners' choice award. ABC13 carries the race live, and it streams on the organiser's app. The Health and Fitness Expo opens on Friday at the George R. Brown Convention Center, and the We Are Houston 5K runs on Saturday. After the race, the RunFest party is on Jones Lawn at Discovery Green.
