Candlelight & Choirs Tour and Houston Heritage Holiday Market
1100 Bagby Street, Houston, TX 77002
About this happenin
For one weekend in December, the Heritage Society keeps five historic houses in Sam Houston Park, in downtown Houston, open into the evening for its Candlelight & Choirs Tour. Reenactors and docents are inside the houses, and choirs and musicians perform around the park. Visitors come when they like during the tour hours. Tickets include sweets. Youth tickets cost less, and children under 5 are free. The tour goes ahead rain or shine. The Houston Heritage Holiday Market runs alongside it and is free to enter. Small-business vendors sell gifts there, and hot chocolate and coffee are served. Parking is free at 212 Dallas Street by the Kellum-Noble House, and discounted at the garage at 1200 Bagby Street. The first tour was in December 1963. It brought 365 members and friends to the park, where the Kellum-Noble House and the Nichols-Rice-Cherry House were the only two houses then. The Garden Club of Houston and the River Oaks Garden Club underwrote the second year, and more than 1,000 people came over two nights.
More in December: 6 other Houston events.
