About this happenin
Big Tex, the 55-foot cowboy who has greeted fairgoers since 1952, stands over the State Fair of Texas at Fair Park in Dallas for 24 days each fall, from the last week of September into October. The fair traces its start to 1886. The nonprofit that runs it counts those 24 days as its largest fundraiser. Corny Dogs and turkey legs are sold all over the park. Concessionaires also compete every year for the Big Tex Choice Awards, held since 2005, and Fried Beer and Fried Peaches and Cream have both made the finals. There is a midway, livestock shows, the Texas Auto Show and live music on the Chevrolet Main Stage. Children two and younger get in free. DART's Green Line stops at Fair Park Station, on Parry Avenue at the entrance to the fairgrounds.
More in September: 12 other Dallas-Fort Worth events.
