For three weekends around the holiday, the Asia Times Square shopping center on W Pioneer Parkway in Grand Prairie celebrates Lunar New Year, with free entry and free parking. The center calls it its biggest event of the year and one of the largest Lunar New Year festivals in North Texas, and it draws tens of thousands of guests. The opening Friday starts with a ticketed banquet whose proceeds go to charity. It is the only part closed to the public, and the festival carries on that night in the hallways and outdoor corridors of both buildings. The weekends bring food and merchandise vendors, live performances and lion dances through the day. In recent years the last weekend has been a firecracker show with lion and dragon dances and no vendors.
