About this happenin
Denton Juneteenth is a week-long celebration of freedom in Denton, Texas, centered on Fred Moore Park on South Bradshaw Street. The first announcement of a Denton celebration was published in 1892, and the City of Denton has supported it since the early 1970s. A committee of Denton County volunteers has been reviving it since 2012. The Freedom Day Parade lines up at City Hall East and covers about a mile, ending at the park. Vendors open there in the morning and a family fun zone with face painting and bounce houses starts at midday. The Hometown Heroes Reception in the afternoon honors people who have served Denton, and a live concert in the park closes the night. Earlier in the week come a gospel concert at the park and a poetry slam with an art exhibition.
