About this happenin

The Juneteenth 4K Freedom Walk & Festival starts on the campus of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center, 2922 MLK Boulevard in Dallas, on a Saturday in June. The center is a City of Dallas facility, and it has held the walk for more than 50 years. The 4K is a walk for health and wellness, three laps around the campus starting at 8:30 a.m., and it costs nothing. Walkers and teams register on site by 7:30 a.m. A free community festival follows into the afternoon, with live entertainment and vendor tables from food sellers, local businesses, nonprofits and city departments. The Kid Zone has had ten bounce houses and water slides. Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when federal troops reached Galveston to see that all enslaved people in Texas were freed, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
