Arlington Independence Day Parade

About this happenin
The Arlington Independence Day Parade rolls two miles through Downtown Arlington and UT Arlington's College Park District at 9 a.m. on the Independence Day holiday. Dottie Lynn and Church Women United started it in 1965 as a ride of children on red, white and blue bicycles around Randol Mill Park, and it outgrew the park path. It is now a curb-to-curb line of more than 100 entries. Professionally built floats roll alongside small ones made by businesses, organizations, churches and youth groups, and all six Arlington high school bands play. Tens of thousands of people watch the two-hour parade. Many pitch tents on the route the night before to hold a spot, and homeowners along it host parties on their porches and lawns. The Arlington 4th of July Association, an all-volunteer nonprofit that depends on sponsorships, puts it on. It calls the parade the largest in Texas, and the Texas Festivals and Events Association has named it the best parade of its size in the state three years running.
